I have always gravitated toward abstract expressionism. The way light moves through a wooded forest, or the way a body of water never holds the same shape twice, is closer to how I see than anything I could paint literally.
My process starts loose. Pigment gets poured and thrown, and for a while the canvas is a mess I do not control. Then the deliberate marks go on top: wide brushstrokes, pastel lines, a loop of white that pulls the chaos into a shape. I do not paint over the mess. It stays underneath, and the new layers give it somewhere to go.
Over the years I have learned to trust my instincts and keep the imperfections. The paintings are better for it, and so am I.
I started showing and selling work in Chicago and now paint from a home studio in Las Vegas. Originals are available here, and I take a small number of commissions each season.
